Mary Elizabeth Bowen, 21 years old, will serve jail time for maiming three people and DUI. Christiansburg Circuit Court Judge Ray Grubbs gave Ms. Bowen 1 year and 10 days of active time to serve in jail.
Ms. Bowen’s blood alcohol level was 0.20 percent. Ms. Bowen ran down eight people when she lost control of her car while texting.
Three suffered serious injuries. Ms. Bowen was dismissed from Virginia Tech for two years, is a convicted felon times three and has been sued for over Seven Million Dollars ($7,000,000.00) by five of the people she struck.
Texting while driving is probably as bad as driving drunk.
