Four Virginia State Police officers have been struck on Virginia Interstate Highways in the last two months. Senior Trooper Jesse Dennis had stopped a vehicle for a traffic infraction on Interstate 64’s eastbound lane when his cruiser was rammed by a Chevrolet Equinox. The Chevy’s driver indicated that he had fallen asleep and has been charged with reckless driving. Fortunately, Trooper Dennis was not seriously injured.
I am sure that driver error plays a big part in these injuries; however, our Interstates are too crowded and that is the government’s fault – it puts us all in danger.

Choosing an attorney to represent you in a DUI case is a tough decision. You need to find a lawyer who knows the law, knows the Court you are in and knows the science. That’s right, the science. Most Virginia DUI cases are based on breath test results. The box the police use does NOT measure the ethanol (drinking alcohol) level in your blood; it does not know how much alcohol is in your blood. It takes a guess at the blood level based on a guess at the level in your breath. Even then, the box does not measure alcohol. The box measures the methyl group of molecules that are found in alcohol and a host of other compounds. It assumes that the methyl group must all be from alcohol.
You end up with a blood alcohol level based on a guess based on a guess grounded in an assumption that may not be true. That may be good enough for government work but it is not good enough for you. http://www.bobkeeferlaw.com/docs/How%20to%20choose%20a%20va%20dui%20lawyer.swf

This is a very funny video about something that is not very funny at all – the sorry way that insurance companies treat people.
It is not unusual for insurance companies to “change the rules” on their insureds or the persons hurt by their insureds. Remember you are just a number to an insurance company and not a very special number at that.

The Louisiana State Police caught one of government’s own recently in Natchitoches’ Community Development Director, Randall S. LaCaze. The City is waiting to see what happens in Court before discipling LaCaze. I am glad he is getting the benefit of the doubt; I just wish that ordinary citizens would be afforded that same luxury. LaCaze was driving a City vehicle when stopped, apparently for improper lane usage. He was charged with open container, DWI and improper lane usage. Now LaCaze can only drive the City’s vehicle while he is working.

The Virginia State Police claim that they are cracking down on aggressive driving with their new Operation Air, Land & Speed. This surge is similar to their late June crackdown where State Police officers handed out 8,000 tickets. It is hard to believe that they gave out 8,000 tickets for aggressive driving. Instead, they gave out the usual tickets for seatbelts, speeding, defective equipment and the like along with some aggressive driving citations.
Isn’t it possible the state really needs the revenue from the tickets and that is the real impetus for this operation? The state police note that deaths statewide are down by nearly 100 over 2007, so far so good; but, twelve motor vehicle deaths have occurred in Hampton roads this month. How many of those deaths resulted from overcrowded or poorly designed or maintained highways? It is after all the state that is in charge of keeping the highways adequate for traffic flow. How is it doing? Not so well.
